3D Printing Nerd

Tom Sanladerer was in Seattle, so we came up with a project. CNC milled coasters with 3d printed inlays! Tom would be using Onshape for design, a birch plywood for stock, and Safety Orange Proto Pasta HTPLA filament. I used Fusion 360, walnut for the stock, and NylonX for mine!

Estefannie is a awesome maker, and quite rad people in person. If you get the chance I highly suggest you meet her and strike up a conversation about awesome stuff!

The Carbide3D CNC mill is a neat little machine. It’s smaller in size, but built strong so it can handle the violent stresses of milling operations.

It’s always a pleasure chatting with Brook Drumm at the Printrbot booth during Bay Area Maker Faire. This year, Brook brought along the revamped Printrbelt – a 3d printer with X and Y at 35 degrees, and z on a conveyor belt!

David Shorey through Shorey Designs creates amazing pieces where 3d printers print ONTO fabric and other materials. This sort of thing is great for costumes, cosplay, and as he shows, creating a functional dress! His table at Bay Area Maker Faire 2018 was always busy with people wanting to see!

Mother’s Day was coming up, and I wanted to make something for mom. Last year I 3d printed something for her – this year, I am going to make something using the Inventables Carvey cnc mill and the Full Spectrum Muse laser cutter!

The Ultimaker S5 is the latest offering from Ultimaker. The S5 boasts all sorts of new improvements over it’s predecessors, including a larger build volume, larger smooth rods, an integrated power supply, filament sensors, a touch screen, and more!

The Felfil Evo filament extruder arrived and I was excited. I have a collection of failed prints and support material I am hoping to grind down and recycle into filament. Would the Felfil Evo fulfill the promise? Find out in my review!
