3D Printing Nerd

It took The Part Daddy roughly 5 hours to get 75% of the way through this MASSIVE Gear Bearing. I wasn’t able to film a time lapse, but this is real-time footage of how the printer is stopped, how prints are removed, and what sort of clean-up is needed.

I have the Original Prusa i3 mk2 kit 3d printer, and I haven’t had the chance to take it out of the box yet. Josef Prusa was in town, so he stopped by to help me get the parts out of the box so I can start building it. That guy is very convincing.

SeeMeCNC brings The Part Daddy to World Maker Faire every year. It’s a 17 foot tall printer that can 3d print models 9.5 feet tall and 4 feet in diameter. Every year it draws a huge crowd, and every year, they print some amazingly huge models on it.

Thanks to Matterhackers I’ve had the Ultimaker 2+ for a few months now, and I’ve been printing a number of models with it. Now it’s time for my review of the Ultimaker 2+ and I have a few things to say about the printer.

While in New York for World Maker Faire, I got to stop by the gCreate shop to visit Gordon and Anna and see the process for putting together a gMax 1.5XT+. They are based in Brooklyn, and are able to produce quite a lot with a smaller space!

I’m visiting the SeeMeCNC shop before road tripping with them to New York Maker Faire at the Hall of Science in Flushing Meadows. While there, we had a few minutes to kill, so JJ held the camera and we did a shop tour. It was tough, as I had to learn everything and them remember it for a single take run through. I think I did okay.
